About the winemaker
Casa Raia is located near the medieval town of Montalcino in Tuscany, Italy. The estate of nine hectares (1.75 ha of vines) once belonged to the Biondi Santi family who ”created” the Brunello di Montalcino wine in the 19th century. In 1997 the then abandoned farm house was restored by Pierre-Jean Monnoyer and his wife Kalyna who have been producing natural wines since. In the vineyard, their goal is to maintain the biodiversity and natural balance of their vines. In autumn the soil is worked gently and seeded with a variety of organic plants and flowers providing natural nutrients to the soil. The use of pesticides and herbicides is banned on the entire estate.

2500 bottles produced, As natural evaporation occurs the barrels are topped up, Once fermentation begins, the cap is monitored daily, Suitable for vegans, The barrels are left untouched for another two years allowing a natural settling to occur without filtration before bottling, The following spring the wine undergoes natural malolactic fermentation, decreasing the acid in the wine, The grapes are de-stemmed and gently fall by gravity into a 30 hl French oak barrel, The grapes soak for a few days before natural fermentation starts extracting colour, flavour and tannins from the skins, The wine is then transferred into old French oak barrels
