Welcome back to our monthly selection of extraordinary red natural wines (plus a Champagne). This March we point our attention to the Northern part of Italy and we include also a stunning example of French champagne. Read ahead to know more about these outstanding natural wines.

Alla Costiera Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 Veneto, Italy

Our first wine of the month is deep ruby red with purple hues and notes of forest fruits: this natural Cabernet Sauvignon is produced in the province of Padua, in the North-East of Italy, where the Alla Costiera Farm is located. Here, everything is made following the organic ideal and the wine fermentations are spontaneous. Only 3000 bottles are made per year. Try this outstanding wine with red meats and creamy cheese.

Vercesi del Castellazzo Luogo dei Monti 2011 Lombardy, Italy

Luogo dei Monti shares with our first wine the intense red colour, but the taste goes in another direction with aromas of forest floors, spices and vanilla. Every bottle is produced using Pinot Noir grape in the organic Azienda Agricola Vercesi del Castellazzo, located in the Oltrepò Pavese hills: the Vercesi family boasts a long history of wine production, as they started in 1808, and thanks to this they are expert winemakers that join tradition and contemporary agriculture. This wine is unfiltered and suitable for vegetarians. Try it as an alternative to Pinot Noir from Burgundy.

Champagne Leclerc Briant Brut Millésime 2007 Champagne, France

Last – but not least – in our March selection is an exceptional natural champagne: the Leclerc Briant Brut Millésime is a superb natural sparkling wine biodynamically produced using a balance of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Pinot Meunier grape varieties. These bottles come from the farm Champagne Leclerc Briant, located in the Champagne region on the north of Paris: the winery has a long history of grape growing at its back and started following the organic farming ideal no less than in the 1940s. This Champagne has a complex aroma that involves stewed apples, crystallised quince, mirabelle plums and evolves into more tropical scents.

This month we selected some outstanding natural wines: now that you know their stories we are sure you can resist and try them all!
