Domaine Jean-Michel Stéphan Vin Sans Origine 2011 Northern Rhône, France
CompareAbout the winemaker
Jean-Michel Stéphan created his domain in 1991 following oenology studies in the Beaujolais. The domain is located in the village of Tupin et Semons at the southern end of the Côte Rôtie appellation, in the northern Rhône, in France. The six hectares are planted mostly with Syrah Serine (old and almost extinct Syrah variety) and a small part of Viognier. Jean-Michel works in the spirit of biodynamics and he made his first ”natural wine”, without additive, in 1997. Jean-Michel uses whole bunch carbonic maceration, which, he says, is the ”traditional way”. His wines are made for long-term cellaring and need to be kept in cool conditions. Your patience will be rewarded. Jean-Michel’s wines are such beautiful, complex and pure expressions of the Syrah Serine. These are bottles to open for special occasions.
